Pick up items faster in the warehouse •
LACED’s warehouse ran on paper. Every manifest printed, every item location guessed, every pick-up a hunt through unmarked boxes. For authenticators trying to find a specific returned sneaker in a pile of identical boxes, that could mean hours lost. As returns volume grew, the problem got worse, and the business was losing money every day an item sat unfound on a shelf.
WHAT I INHERITED
This project came to me mid-flight. The previous designer had left, and a partial system was already in place: shelves coded A-Z by size, a QR code assigned to each item on intake, a label printer and scanner in the warehouse. The logic was sound, and it was closing the gap by having the digital manifesto sync with the customer platform, which allows the staff to walk the floor on mobile or tablet, picking up the items sold in a blink.
WHAT I DID
I mapped the full pick-up flow to understand what information was needed at each step and in what order. When an item was received, a QR code was generated, and the system assigned it a specific shelf location. That location populated the manifest automatically, no manual entry, no paper trail to lose.
I designed the interface for both mobile and desktop. Mobile was the priority; staff needed to scan, locate, and confirm items while moving through the warehouse, so the UI had to work with one hand and be readable in a busy physical environment. Desktop gave managers a live view of inventory and daily manifests without printing anything.
I also redesigned the print assets, QR code labels, manifests, and packing slips, to make sure the physical and digital sides of the system stayed in sync.
OUTCOME
Pick-up time dropped by 37%. Accuracy hit 100% post-launch. Item resale volume increased by 20% within weeks, because items could now be found, processed, and relisted fast. Printed manifests dropped by 40%, cutting paper waste and the daily cost of office supplies that had quietly been adding up for years.
The interface was only part of it. My job was making a half-built system coherent, connecting the physical logic of the warehouse to a digital flow that staff could actually use while on their feet.
