10 up x Snow software

As a Visual Designer at 10up, I worked closely with UX designers and engineers to revitalise WordPress sites for our clients, tailoring them to their unique content generation requirements using the Gutenberg tool.

The design process included the following phases: discovery, exploration, and design. During the discovery phase, I conducted research and workshops to understand the client's values and objectives. Then, I created style tiles and high-fidelity templates that met their needs. Finally, I handed the designs to our engineering team for documentation and production.

The collaborative approach yielded remarkable results, leading to successful redesigns that enhanced navigation and enabled more accessible content updates. Additionally, the attractive designs effectively differentiated our clients from their competitors. Discovery

During the discovery phase, I conducted research and prepared a workshop to gain a deep understanding of the client and their values. The workshop included aligning the established brand identity, challenging assumptions, and identifying areas of opportunity.

To further refine the brand identity, I used the workshop findings to explore Style tiles. Style tiles helped the client visualize how the brand could move forward and provided a foundation for the subsequent design process.

Design

After completing the discovery phase, I moved on to the design process. This involved creating a style guide and designing high-fidelity templates that the client agreed upon. I also collected the core and custom block designs and documented everything for handoff to engineers for production.

The design sign-off process was structured into milestones: Drop 1, which included the 3 standard key templates; Drop 2, comprising 4 additional relevant templates; and finally, the full navigation.

INSIGHTS

The redesign process for WordPress differs slightly from creating a site from scratch. It requires strong communication with the client, which can sometimes be challenging as they may not be visually savvy or have difficulty describing what they want. However, by working closely with the client to understand their needs and translate their vision into a tangible product, we successfully achieved their objectives. Our clients were consistently satisfied with the outcome, as the redesigns resulted in improved navigation experiences, easier daily content updates, a more appealing design, and better differentiation from competitors.
